Are Those Stars in Your Lapis Lazuli?

Q: Are Those Stars in Your Lapis Lazuli?

A: Have you ever stared into a stone and asked it to share the mysteries of its life? Or tried to imagine the journey it has lived, mined from the center of the earth to now sitting on your desk staring back at you? It’s not that I am bored and have nothing to do, trust me, it’s just that there is something intrinsically profound about the weighted cosmic majesty I experience when meditating with my Lapis Lazuli.

A cool smooth essence to the touch, there is a power in the dynamic between this magnetic tonal mineral and my bare flesh of hand. One plane pours into the next, almost as another dimension of thought or existence, or perhaps just the other side of the surface. I close my eyes as worlds open up to me. How deep did this begin, and from where was this forged amidst subterranean pressures unfathomable to the mind?

Veins of gold weave in and throughout, stark in contrast to the rich royal hues of the palette in question. Are those stars in my Lapis Lazuli or am I witnessing a miracle of light encapsulated in stone? It is said that Lapis was intricately utilized to embellish the tombs and sarcophagus of Egyptian Royalty. Revered as the representation of the “inner” king and queen within us all, it is seen as a tool for the depths of the inner journey in search of self-knowledge.

My mother's wedding ring to my father was made of a band of Lapis as opposed to diamonds, which were present for the engagement, of course. This midnight threshold guardian won their hearts over the traditional glitter from the popular condensed carbon. Though their marriage completed when I was 16, her Lapis ring eternally lives in my heart, etched into the fabric of where I’ve come from.

As I sit this eve and reflect on the day I’ve had with the equinox stirring the trees outside, I am grateful to be with this stone of internal vision and intuitive voice. Today* I planted a seed into the ethers, a pulsing seed of possibility and lifeforce. Not only do I have a dream of a new future, it lives in my veins, and it is seeking the brilliant light of day.

Today was one of those days. You know the days that you can see coming from afar and are both anticipatory in excitement as well as glad there is space between you and it...until the countdown begins? Two weeks, one week, three days, tomorrow--- a “can’t sleep, adrenaline pumping, joy overflowing, nausea-inducing” day? Today was one of those.

Who knows what will become of this moment in time, yet action was lived, and vision was shared. Now the mystery begins to unfold and reveal the deeper layers of possibility as I live them in real-time.

This morning I said goodbye to one room, walked through the door, and stepped into a new spacious room unknown. This isn’t the first time, I tend to move through rooms these days as if trying out new Airbnb’s for fun. Life is just too revitalizing to stay put.

And so, as I now lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my Soul to keep; If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my Soul to take. And if I wake up tomorrow anew, I’ll drink my hot water with lemon, meditate and journal as I do---while...

The Lapis of the new dawn will still be right here,

I’ll continue to whisper as if it's lended its ear.

“Tell me the mysteries of your ancient wise life,

In exchange, your journey honored...

Upheld into the light.

It’s only at certain angles that your radiance shines bright,

and in such a way, the resemblance…

The majesty of midnight.

Oh sacred Lapis, the stories you have known!

Enamoring Kings and Queens,

The joy you have sewn.

From Greek Isles to Persia,

Cosmic tidings woven from the land.

The invitation to dive deep,

Internal royalty to understand.

Your message is profound,

Beyond the beauty of your hues...

It’s in your scarab weight of knowing,

Inspiring us to become of you.
